I was recently trying to explain some of these finer points to a client on writing to your audience and phrasing things to be more successful and reach more people through a blog. A colleague that I admire Timetheif at onecoolsite has done another excellent job on pointing out some straight forward information. You can read her full article here at http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2009/06/22/creating-an-effective-blog-tagline/ and let her know what you think and I am sure she will appreciate the feedback.

RSS (Really Simple Syndication)

The RSS RSS feed symbol can be found on most blog sites, but what is it and what can it do for you. The RSS is an xml feed that has been standardized to be viewed on a wide variety of platforms. The feed (which sometimes is referred as) can be viewed in a web page, on your desk top or cell phone. This “feed” can carry a wide variety of information that can help users find your content efficiently and effectively, by embedding meta tags, images, video and textual content.

The best way to get your information delivered to this wide variety of devices is to sign up with feedburner and get the code to paste in your site that will allow users to subscribe to your feed or you can log into your wordpress account and go in to Appearance / Widgets and add the RSS to the sidebar. Once it has been added to the sidebar you can hit edit and enter your RSS feed url (http://feeds.feedburner.com/yourblog). Hit save and your done, now anyone can subscibe to your feed and get your information on the device they prefer.

Blogging communities can be found throughout the net and finding a good one takes a little trial and error. It is good to join as many as you can just to get the exposure, but finding a niche community related to your blog may be a little tougher. All blogging communities offer something of value to other users and yourself, and once again it comes down to what you put in, you will get out.
